Embarrassing Hack Disrupts Nigeria's Bond Roadshow

On Thursday, an investors' call hosted by Nigeria’s Debt Management Office (DMO) was disrupted by a pornographic video clip, causing embarrassment during a crucial hybrid roadshow for the federal government’s dollar-denominated domestic bond.

The incident occurred during a session aimed at securing dollar investments for a $500 million domestic bond set to be issued on August 19. The unexpected video, which lasted for approximately 10 seconds before the session was disconnected, featured explicit content and took attendees by surprise.

The DMO has not yet issued an official statement, but an attendee confirmed the disturbance to TheCable. The video, showing explicit sexual activity, disrupted the meeting, which included investors, analysts, bank officials, and government representatives.

Finance Minister Wale Edun, who spoke during the event, emphasized the importance of the bond issuance for Nigeria's economic reform. The bond aims to raise funds from both local and international investors and is part of the country’s strategy to attract foreign currency and bolster economic development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

Despite the disruption, Edun expressed optimism about the bond launch and the opportunity it represents for Nigerian leadership in the financial sector.
