Chinese Firm Releases Nigerian Presidential Jet for Upcoming Diplomatic Meeting

Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, a Chinese company, has agreed to release one of Nigeria’s seized presidential jets. The release follows a court order that allowed Zhongshan to confiscate three Nigerian jets until it receives $74.5 million in a legal award against Nigeria.

On Friday, the company's spokesperson announced that the aircraft was returned to facilitate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s upcoming trip to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron. According to News360 Nigeria, the spokesperson stated, “Zhongshan has consistently sought to act reasonably and fairly in this legal dispute, which was not of its making.”

The spokesperson added, “We have been informed that an Airbus A330, currently detained in France due to a French court order obtained by Zhongshan, is needed for the President of Nigeria’s trip to meet with President Macron. As a gesture of goodwill, Zhongshan has lifted the seizure of the aircraft to allow its use for this important journey.”

Zhongshan expressed its commitment to continuing discussions with Nigerian government representatives to reach a fair and expedient settlement.
