The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has identified Benue, Delta, and Borno states as the least expensive places to live in Nigeria. The Consumer Price Index and Inflation Data for July, released by the NBS on Thursday, revealed that these states experienced the slowest increase in headline inflation on a year-on-year basis.
Benue recorded a headline inflation rate of 27.28 percent, Delta 28.06 percent, and Borno 28.33 percent. On a month-on-month basis, the states with the slowest rise in headline inflation were Taraba (0.17 percent), Kwara (0.62 percent), and Ondo (0.91 percent).
In contrast, Abuja, Borno, and Enugu saw the highest increases in inflation, with rates of 3.91 percent, 3.84 percent, and 3.76 percent, respectively.
The NBS also reported a decrease in Nigeria's overall headline inflation to 33.90 percent in July, the first decline since 2022 when it was at 21.34 percent. Additionally, a reduction in the prices of staple foods such as garri and fufu contributed to a drop in food inflation to 39.53 percent from 40.87 percent in June.
